My story with the HIV

HIV is a disease that is transferred through blood, breast milk, vaginal fluids, or semen.
People usually think they can not get infected by this disease. They have misconception that people who are homosexuals or sex workers are those that are more exposed to infected. People who have a very libertine life. But it is not, if you have an active sex life and do not have a steady partner. Your responsibility is to use protection. The disease has no face people who have HIV are normal people like you and me. No matter if they look good, are in college, if their are fat, skinny, if they have money. So the best way is to use protection.
People with HIV are people who have rights. We should not discriminate may have a job, a home, a husband or wife, even a family.

My cousin is Alejandra is a woman, housewife, good daughter, good friend, is happy, and she have HIV.
She had a boyfriend for 5 years, he was her only boyfriend. He was a boy that looked decent and was a hard worker. My cousin finished college and graduated from Tourism and later married him. Her husband was her only sexual partner. Every time I went to Mazatlan I saw Alejandra and she looked well and happy. When I was 17 years old, Alejandra was 32 years old. I remember very well that year. My mom called me and I sat at the table and she began to tell me that my cousin Alejandra had HIV. I could not believe and I did not understand why she was infected. My mom started to tell me that HIV was a disease that is transferred through sexual intercourse, blood, or breast milk. My cousin's husband was infected with HIV, but he did not know so my cousin contagion. She started with the flu for two weeks. After she started with joint pains in the hands, knees and diarrhea. When she went to the doctor. The doctor started doing studies because she was several days sick and that's when HIV was diagnosed.
My mom and I went to Mazatlan to support my cousin. Alejandra was very sad, she cried a lot but she was very angry with her husband for been so inept and unfaithful. It was not easy for my cousin. She had to went to a psychologist, a medical visits to accept her new life. She once told me when she knew that she carrier HIV was so hard and difficult. The easy way was do not doing nothing and die. But she have to head a new life, dreams and she will not let that HIV destroys her life.
