Is Smoking Really One of the Main Reasons behind Some Types of Cancer
It is no mystery for smokers that tobacco and its products are among the main reasons behind many types of cancer. In fact, each smoker has the chance to read on their packs of cigarettes that smoking is a main reason behind lung cancer and other diseases. The National Cancer Institute estimates the number of fatalities related to smoking near 443,000 deaths each year, including approximately 49,000 deaths due to exposure to secondhand smoke. My mother is one of those tobacco consumers that have been smoking for over twenty years now. This means that she has been smoking since I was one years old. She smokes about one pack a day. She smokes indoor when she’s cooking, reading or watching TV. She also smokes outside whenever is possible. About five years ago; my mom had the first negative symptom of smoking when she was diagnosed with “Dyspnea”. She could not breathe regularly, nor could she do any sort of exercise. She would cough a lot when she laughs or even cries. This was not it; she was diagnosed with endometrial and uterine cancer just last year. Luckily for her, the cancer was diagnosed at a very early stage when she underwent a successful “Hysterectomy: Surgical removal of the uterus.” The affects of my mother’s smoking are far beyond her personal life. I myself have a chronic asthma and it is believed to be as a result of inhaling my mother’s smoke on daily basis for almost twenty years. My mother was advised to quit smoking and start a new free tobacco life but she is refusing. She is still smoking the same amount of cigarettes every day with the same side effects if not worse. She thinks that it is part of her daily life now and it is too late to change. It is that part of her life that might take her life away sooner than expected
