The silent zone (by Pablo Valles)
“La Zona Del Silencio” that means“the silent zone” and this is because this place that is a huge desert that used to be a part of the sea, or maybe a river passed through it. It is located in Durango, Mexico, very close to the state of Coahuila, and people often go there for picnics and camping. There are many outdoor activities to do, and is a great place to look at the stars at night.

When I was a younger, my father took my brother and me on a picnic to “La Zona Del Silencio.” I remember how I, too, heard all the scary stories about that place. Some people said that there were monsters up there, other people said that the place was so quiet that you could heard your own thoughts, but actually there was no proof of anything like that. We got there and start setting up the camp, and my brother and I helped my father start a fire. The first instruction that my father gave to us was to look for rocks to build a fire ring, so the fire did not spread or cause any damage to the environment. My brother who is older than me grabbed a huge rock and tried to carry it to the fire ring, but that rock was too heavy for him. After a few tries, the only thing he managed to do was turn the rock upside down.

My father was watching, and helped my brother carry the rock. But when he took a closer look at the rock, he found that there was a little mark of a fish in the rock. The first thing that came to my mind was that it was some kind of signal of something bad, but my father explained to us that the little mark was called a fossil.
He explained how species changed over time, and how fossils helped scientists to better understand the species that were around before now. It ended up being a very nice camping experience because my brother and I felt like scientists making huge discoveries. Now it is funny to remember all this after taking biology classes that cover evolution and fossils.
