My Struggle With Obesity

Picture
To start out with, I am 5’4” and weigh 295 pounds. I wasn’t always like this and with the poor choices that I have made, have caused me to gain over 100 pounds since I was a freshman in high school.  When I started going to school I weighed 170 pounds. I was always the chubby kid but never the completely unhealthy who eats whatever I wanted. Throughout high school I started to eat more and more junk food and was not able to be as active as I would of liked. By the time that I graduated four years later, I weighed 300 pounds and struggling with knee pain and just being unhappy with what I had done to my body.

It has been four almost five years since I graduated high school and I am still struggling with my same weight issue. I needed to start to get this weight off but I did not know how. I tried many things like weight watchers, and the constant yo-yo dieting but every time I would lose a ton of weight and then hit a plateau give up and gain it all back again.

I finally got sick of it and I got on the computer and started to do some research. I learned that people become obese not just from lack of activity and poor food choices, but also from the biology of their bodies.  I was born into a family of mostly obese people so my genes have never been on my side. By learning this I knew that it was going to be an up hill battle.

I finally was able to turn my life around on October 29, 2012 when I got the courage to join a gym. I got myself a trainer and was ready to start to get rid of my unwanted weight and to never get it back. Since then I have had a few bad weeks and a lot of good ones. I have lost 5 pounds, which puts my weight at 295, but I’m still working hard every day to get the weight off.

The things that have really helped me so far are friends family and my trainer. He is a friend that knows how to kick my butt and does not know the word quit. He tells me that it is not in his dictionary. He will not let me give up because I showed up to the gym crying and wanting to quit and he still kicked my butt and helped me to motivate my self to keep going.

I thought that it would be nice for you all to know about some of the gadgets that I use to help me make sure that I am tracking everything that I need and which help to keep my motivated. The apps that I use on my IPhone are Lose It, Run Keeper, Tactico Health, and Nike Plus. All of these apps work together and help me with my motivation and to make sure that my health is staying in check.
