Alcoholism
Since I was a little girl I have always seen people drinking and never really knew how bad it was until I got older. Me and my little sister used to visit my uncle Bob all the time and he always had a beer in his hand. Every night when he got off of work he would sit down and drink his beer, he would have about 13 beers in one night. The way he acted when he was drunk was scary and could even get violent. For the longest time I thought he would get over it and it would be no big deal, I was sadly mistaken.
As time went by his drinking began to get worse and worse. It got to the point were he stopped going to work and would only sit at home, drink his beer and watch TV. My uncle Bob started to neglect his own son and would drink so much he would pass out before it was even noon. Soon after my parents no longer allowed me and my little sister to visit my uncle Bob. At the time I didn't know why because I was just a little girl but my parents filled me in as to why we were not allowed at uncle Bob's as i got older.
Uncle Bob's wife soon left him and he lost custody of his son. That of course only made his drinking worse. In that year alone uncle Bob got two DUIs and spent some time in jail and lost his license. He also began to have medical problems. He was moody all the time and was gaining a lot of weight. After lots of talks he finally went to the doctor and found it was ruining his liver and if he continued to drink it was going to kill him and that is when it hit him that the drinking needed to stop.
Uncle Bob went to rehab in 2006 for six months and when he came back he was the uncle Bob I knew as a little kid. He was fun and even looked better after the rehab. His wife started to talk to him again and although they never remarried he was aloud to see his son. I am glad my uncle Bob went to rehab and is back to his old self and I am aloud to see him. The reasons people drink will differ to each person but the outcome will never be good, you could lose everything you work for just for a can filled with beer. After seeing what uncle Bob went through, I know one thing is for sure, you will never see me drinking.
